East Africa is well and truly open for business!

​

Despite continuing, but very occasional, political problems in the north of Ethiopia, we have ourselves travelled there safely and enjoyably during the last many months, and extensively during that time in the centre and south of Ethiopia, and in three other amazing countries in the east of this huge continent,

Madagascar, Kenya and Tanzania.

​

We attended the extraordinary Ethiopian Timkat festival both in 

Lalibela last January and in Axum this January, with thousands of Ethiopians from all over the country celebrating their very special Epiphany period.

Even this year, there were numerous foreign tourists in Lalibela for the festival

in spite of the British FCDO's concerns. 

​

We also had an enjoyable small-group 'Ancient, Historic Ethiopia' tour with enthusiastic guests last April, despite those Foreign Office warnings.

​

Last July, we had a very colourful 'Tribes, Mountains and Caves' tour in southern Ethiopia and this was repeated this June with great enjoyment for all concerned. In November we ourselves spent a sunny and peaceful two weeks in Lalibela with no signs of trouble, followed by a three-week stay there at Easter.

We are updating this page while preparing to stay the full month of

October in Lalibela once again.  

   

[Despite our own proven experience, we are still deciding to postpone tours

to these northern areas of Ethiopia in 2026 until the British Foreign Office changes its stance.]

Meanwhile, it is all systems go for our 2026 tours in

Madagascar, Kenya and now Tanzania.

 

We have now travelled three times with our 'Kenyan Experience' tour,

complete with its three-day Maasai Mara big game safari as its climax.

Our 'Madagascan Odyssey' has already had a total of five outings to date,

and 2025 saw the first of our brand-new 'Magnificent Madagascar' tours taking place, again with great success and enjoyment. 

  

​[There are major - and potentially disruptive - road works about to take place on the RN7 in Madagascar,

the main route of our 'Odyssey' tour. As a result, we are going to concentrate exclusively

on our northern, and wonderful, 'Magnificent Madagascar' tour for 2026,

with the expectation of the 'Odyssey' reprising in 2027 after the job is done.]
